Play+ synth engine quality

Hey good people at Polyend,

I have noticed this for a while, but it seems like the different synth engines (except maybe for PERC) are limited in sample rate. If I try to play high notes it seems like there’s a lot of audible aliasing happening. For something like the new DIRT synth this isn’t really a problem because of the types of sounds it makes, but I definitely notice it in the other synths when I try to create clean sounding patches or bell type sounds, or any patch that would normally have a lot of fizz (like a saw wave with the filter wide open)

A couple of questions:

  • What is the actual sample rate that the synth engines render the sound at?
  • Is it possible to have a high quality mode where you can exchange sound quality for maximum number of synth engines or simultaneous voices?

Thanks for your time

The internal sampling rate is the same across all engines at 44.1 kHz, even Dirt. There is no high-quality mode except for the WTFM engine, which has an antialias parameter to tame the FM.

Thanks for confirming. Is it just my Play+ then?

I might test on other outputs, and try rendering out stems to analyse. In headphones it sounds like if you play higher notes (like the top two octaves in the piano mode) there’s some ringing going on, which makes me think it’s an aliasing issue as opposed to a treble distortion issue. Maybe the synth engines need an oversampling option or something?

Does anyone else have this issue?
