This would enable the owners of Play/Play+ and Tracker Mini to use the knobs and pads of the Play as inputs/control interface to control the functionality of the Tracker Mini. Allowing Mini users to use a similar workflow to Tracker OG users.
What is the problem?
The absence of grid/buttons and encoder(s) on Tracker Mini, compared to Tracker OG, results in a less efficient and smooth workflow.
What do you want to achieve?
Enabling the utilization of Play/Play+ grid/buttons and encoder(s) on TM, in a similar manner to Tracker OG.
Hey @spacekid.90, thx for the wish. That’s an interesting idea.
As far as workarounds go. You could currently sequence things on the MIDI side of the Play and record those steps into tracks on the Mini.
But you are right that you can’t use the Play as a Control-Surface for the Mini - essentially using the Play to control everything on the Mini. Which is what you mean right?
I don’t own the Tracker OG(I own TM), but from what I’ve seen, the grid and the encoder are the essential part of its workflow.
Seeing all of these comments on Tracker+ thread got me thinking that’s basically what the users want: playability of Tracker OG and processing power of Tracker Mini.
For owners of Play and TM, this would be an excellent solution.
It is true. If you’ve have the Original Tracker, coming to the Mini is a change of pace.
But not as huge as one might think. I have both and feel comfortable on both of these devices.
The jogwheel - while nice - is something you can easily live without in my opinion. The solution of the +/- Buttons is well thought out and does the job just as well.
For me personally the lack of pads/the grid is the most major and most noticable difference. But again, something you can easily remedy by using a MIDI Controller. Else - there is no difference whatsoever workflow wise.
As i said, you might be able to already use the Play as a MIDI Input device on the Mini, atleast for note entry. If you are looking to use the Play knobs for a deeper control-surface like integration, then i’ll probably change the wording a little bit to make that desire more prominent - if that’s ok
Fantastic idea…REALLY liking this secondary idea of repurposing older tech as remote controllers too, could add so much life and impetus to upgrade to newer iterations too
