What is the problem?
Currently, there is no way to quickly bring variety into the 35 built-in playback algorithms and change their generation logic on the fly without shifting the actual notes on the grid.
What should this feature achieve?
This is a new Shift parameter that loops the playback mask back and forth by +/- 15 steps. It will allow users to instantly get tons of new variations out of a single preset, while leaving the original notes on the grid completely untouched.
I have a feature request to spice up the Play Mode a bit: to bring some variety into the 35 built-in patterns and get rid of that static feel, we could use a Shift (or Offset) parameter that would work for all algorithms except the basic Forward and Reverse.
Shift / Offset - Basically, this parameter loops the whole playback mask back and forth by +/- 15 steps within the track length. It’s pretty much like Move Step, except it doesn’t shift the actual notes on the grid — it shifts the generation algorithm itself. You get tons of new variations out of a single preset instantly, while the original grid stays completely untouched.
WORKFLOW
-
Select the track you want.
-
Press and hold the Lower Screen Button to bring up the hidden Shift sub-parameter.
-
Turn the Screen Knob (or the Play Mode knob) to adjust the offset value from -15 to +15 — you’ll hear the changes instantly on the fly.
-
Release the button, and the parameter snaps right back to the original Play Mode, while your offset stays active.
Backward compatibility
This won’t be an issue at all. When you load old projects, the Shift parameter is just set to 0 by default.
Such parameters strictly follow the Polyend Play+ rule of “one step = one event”. They don’t break the logic or the rules of how the sequencer works.
