Play+ endgame... How are you keeping it fresh?

So I’ve been a Play/Play+ user for a while just making grooves in my spare time. I’m at a point with it where I feel like I’ve unlocked all the features and shortcuts and “tricks.” The tracks I make sound reminiscent of other tracks from the past, because I keep doing the same moves. For a nearly limitless machine, I feel kind of limited with what I can do with it.

So help me get through the fog. Share a creative tip or technique that you deployed recently. I’m hoping to get inspired, and maybe others will too??

You can maybe use completely different samples.

Every time I want something different I radically change all samples.

Not using drums.

Only as a midi sequencer

I hope people will post more ideas.

Sometimes it happens to me with tracker mini. I play a few days with other hardware and always come back fresh to make new loops.

Mess around. Punch in random notes and play. Then flip through sounds. Performance pad. Goes on the shelf, grab the Synth. Play. Put that on the shelf, go to the beach for the weekend. Come back, grab the Play, beat fill, change patterns by randomly pushing buttons. Put back on shelf. Grab iPad and play. Back on shelf, Turn on hydra synth, make noise. Turn off, go for a hike.

Randomness and balance are my keys to keeping things fresh.
