Corrupted audio over usb under a variety of circumstances. The most reproducible is if you add a synth while connected to a computer or iPad the audio will get corrupted. You generally have to shut everything down start the play connect it to the computer and then start up your DAW in that order and if you’re lucky it will play normally. There are a couple of threads about it. You can see it in this one:
I understood this was an issue with iPads. Does it really impact PC/Mac as well?
I’m primarily an iPad user but I saw others complain about usb audio on computers. I just hooked up the Play to my MacBook using Live and can confirm that there are similar issues they manifest a bit differently but this is what I experienced: changing synth patches causes Live to lose connection with the Mac. After reconnecting a few times the audio issue (distortion) came up.
I think it’s safe to say the Play has issues with USB audio - especially with regards to using the built in synths/changing patches.
Got it, thanks! I’m asking because I use the USB over audio extensively and since following the guide provided by Sandroid, and using VBAudio Matrix Coconut, I no longer have any issues. Can’t speak for Mac users though.
Regarding the iPad, I wouldn’t hold my breath The Manual mentions that USB audio is only supported for latest Mac/PC OS. I’m under the impression that was mentioned by some Polyend Officials here as well.
Something in this beta got my Play+ corrupted. It was all working well for a few days until it started doing quirky things like not loading sample packs (built in or purchased palettes). When I could get one to load I tried applying beat fills, but the purchased beat fill palettes wouldn’t work, only the built in ones. When I tried applying a scale to a project the scale wasn’t applying at all. I tried creating a new project, but every new project was a copy of the steps from the last one I did. Lastly, the list of projects I could open contained projects which had been deleted from the SD card. I’ll have to find some way to revert my Play+ and perhaps my SD card.
I suspect their audio over usb-c is not fully compliant with USB Audio Device Class 3.0 specification. It is also unusual that it is somehow tied to the synths. I have a few devices with usb-c audio and they are essentially plug and play - notably the Roland S1 which is significantly cheaper (though not as full featured of course). My expectations for a device in this price range is it should just work. The fact the you have to use a work around to make it work on a PC is not great. The worst part for me isn’t even the fiddling I have to do to get it to work its the distorted audio is so loud in my headphones. I think there is a potential for hearing damage.
My SD card was one which came with the Play+. I got it formatted and reloaded all of the stock content and a handful of packs I purchased.
Before this beta I had no idea about the sample pool disappearing bug which when I reverted to v1.1 certainly saw. I updated to the 1.1 build with that fixed and that seemed resolved. I’m really suprised that wasn’t a public release since it appears to be quite destrictive to a project. I probably had a few projects in that missing sample pool state I was likely unaware of and loaded up in this 1.2 beta. I wonder if that was the reason for the corruption.
I’m back up and testing out this beta once more.
I tried to make use of finger drumming mode by preparing notes and chords that I needed to play a melody and chord progression with the synths and found out that I can’t play sustained notes no matter for how long I hold a step down. Note lengths are baked into steps. Will this be addressed? Cheers.
SD card corrupt after applying firmware 1.2.0 for Polyend Play+. Here were my steps:
- Brand new Polyend Play+, and using supplied SD card
- Copied the new firmware to the firmware folder, and upgraded on the Play
- After the play rebooted, I went to load a Sample Pack - it froze, and even the power button was none responsive
- Pulled power cable, and put back in, but when powered up it ask to insert the SD Card - which was inserted
- Moved the SD card back to my Windows computer, and it said that it needed to be formatted.
After formatting the SD card, and downloading the Play+ SD Content, all is working again.
I really love the performance mode of the Play and I’m very excited that performance mode now also work for the midi/synth side. Great!
But would like to be able to synchronize the performance effects I apply to the sample and the midi/synth side. With beta 1.2.0.1865b2 it both layers are independent - which maybe can be nice sometimes - but I would rather like to be able to effect both layers at the same time when for example changing root tone (effectively changing chord of my composition). Is there a way to synchronize the two sides so that performance mode changes affect both the sample and the midi/synth side at the same time? That makes for a GREAT chord/scene shift tool, I use it a ton when I improvise live with the performance tool which in my opinion makes this device genius.
Like Kati I would also like to be able to be able to switch between normal and performance-effect by instantly pressing the performance button, and not to have to reselect tracks each time. That again makes for a great live arrangement tool when playing live.
