I use Play+ and Synth connected over USB MIDI host. Play+ is the sequencer. When I enter and then exit the performance mode no matter in midi or sample sequencer mode, the parameters on the synth get messed up. It doesn’t matter if I sequence parameter locks or not. This also happens if the sequencer is not running.
Does anyone else have the same problem? Is there a workaround? Currently it is ruining my live performance.
I’m using both devices and I don’t have this problem that I am aware of. Do you have some kind of way to monitor midi messages in between those two devices? it would be interesting to see just by toggling the performance mode on and off if you’re getting any chatter over the midi with the transport, running then try it with it stopped.
I tried to reproduce it today, but without success. I noticed it happens on internal synth engines as well. My guess is that all parameter tweaks done in performance mode a reset after exiting performance mode, so maybe there is a setting, that is stuck and gets recalled under certain conditions. Since I am using a USB host device I can also connect a USB MIDI interface and record the MIDI. I will try doing next time.
Edit: I think I now know the steps to reproduce it:
- Assign synth CC parameter to one of the knobs on play+.
- Change the parameter value on the sequence or one of the steps.
- Play sequence.
- Make sure the parameter is cleared by double tapping the display button while selecting the sequence.
- Go to performance mode and adjust parameter on the sequence in performance mode.
- Exit performance mode.
- Adjust parameter on synth.
- Open and close performance mode.
- Parameter will reset to last value which was set in sequence.
For internal synths it happens too, but here I do not yet have the clear understanding of how it happens.
Are you saying that when you leave performance mode it goes back to where you were before you entered performance mode? I think the intended behavior is to go back to where you were before you entered the performance. My instinct is that sometimes the midi side doesn’t always reset, but I haven’t really earnestly haven’t tested it.
