Pattern Number Shift

What is the problem?

Patterns are set to a particular number in Pattern and Song Mode. Pattern 1 is always Pattern 1, etc. The problem is that if you create Pattern 1, then create, say, Patterns 2-7, then want to go back and tweak parts in Pattern 1 into a new Pattern, you would have to copy Pattern 1 and create Pattern 8. If you originally sequenced in Song Mode four instances of 1, but wanted to change out the last instance of 1 for 8, it can becoming numerically confusing.

What should this feature achieve?

An ability to shift the pattern number would help with song sequencing. Looking at the example above, you could rename Pattern 8 as Pattern 2 and the Tracker would prompt if you would like to shift the other Pattern numbers over: the original Pattern 2 now becomes 3, 3 becomes 4, etc.

Are there any workarounds?

Any links to related discussions?

Any references to other products?

Easy workaround, just rename the patterns to helpful names. Auto pattern shift would be confusing when everything is named as you want it and then shifted.

Other solution done ever since, name the inserted pattern 2a, 2b, etc

Hey there @mrgreenlafleur Great to have you join us on Backstage. As @Patrick kindly mentioned, you have the ability to rename the pattern. Knowing that, I don’t see this wish being fulfilled. Are you cool if I archive it?

Archived wish due to pattern naming workaround.
