Currently, because the pads are in a ortholinear grid, it’s quite hard to find the accidentals in chromatic mode, or where the scale loops in other modes.
What should this feature achieve?
Since it seems the system is capable of different brightness levels for the pad lights, perhaps dimly light the accidentals in chromatic mode so that it resembles an inverted piano keyboard. In scale mode, perhaps just highlight the tonic dimly.
Are there any workarounds?
I’ve currently just printed a label with note names, but this obviously won’t help in scale mode, plus it feels rather noobish to do so.
Another possible “workaround” would be practice and/or memorization, but I personally find it hard to get the layout to stick in my mind.
Good idea, though i think this is more a QoL update than a thing for the wishlist.
There are more ui enhancements that should be made.
visual guidelines that light up the c for pad layout (as you mentioned)
wav slices that light up also in live recording mode, not only when step rec is active or you are on the instruments page.
especially perc synth is unusable when you set a global scale in config. No chance you find the right pads without guide lights.
Edit: there’s also a funny workaround because of another inconsistency:
Perc and drum slices show up on the instruments page but you cannot arm live recording while you are here. In pattern mode arm live rec, then switch to instruments page, you’ll have the guiding lights and record your pattern using the pads.
