Hi all. First post from me on this platform from a long time tracker enthusiast (former OctaMED user) and original Polyend Tracker owner.
So after much planning I’ve finally got my studio audio routing sorted, now it’s time to turn my attention to MIDI routing.
For info I have the following gear that I want to connect via MIDI to my PC running Ableton Live:
Behringer UMC 1820 audio / MIDI interface
Korg EMX-1 SD
Dreadbox Typhon
Polyend Tracker
Behringer TD-3 MO
Modal Cobalt 5S
Roland MC-808
Novation Impulse 49
The Korg EMX-1 and Roland MC-808 don’t handle MIDI via USB, so my intention for those is as follows:
Behringer UMC 1820 MIDI Out to Korg EMX-1 SD MIDI In
Korg EMX-1 SD MIDI Out to Behringer UMC 1820 MIDI In
Korg EMX-1 SD MIDI Thru to Roland MC-808 MIDI In
The other equipment has MIDI over USB capability, so my thought process is to connect those all to my PC using a mains powered USB hub, rather than having to start thinking about additional DIN MIDI interfacing, merging, thru boxes etc.
Because I’ve found conflicting information about this already, I just want to see if there’s a definitive answer on whether I can use a mains powered USB hub to enable the Tracker to receive power and transfer MIDI to and from the PC?
Also, does it need to be USB 3.0?
Thanks in advance
