One-shot quick performance mode

What is the problem?

In brief: Hold perform button + turn knobs, on release revert to previous.

I find myself jumping in and out of performance mode to apply temporary effects, which is cumbersome and hard to execute quickly in a live performance setting.

What should this feature achieve?

Quickly apply a filter or desired modulation, then release held perform button to “drop” or end a fill.

This would enable quick punch-in effects for transitions and drop-builds without having to fully enter performance mode. Excellent in a live setting when staying in sample place mode is desired. This would eliminate the need to switch layers for many quick performance fx use cases.

This uses existing UX patterns in the play, where holding a button (e.g. shift) changes what an underlying param does.

Are there any workarounds?

Any links to related discussions?

Any references to other products?

Could a possible workaround be copying the effects you want, and pasting it then using undo? This would only be on a per-track basis, but it is how I often will add a filter cutoff, have it saved in memory and redo-undo to turn it on or off. It’s not perfect but maybe that can help?

Also welcome to the community! Thanks for bringing this to everyone’s attention, this would be a cool feature, although the implementation would be a hard thing to figure out, but i could see the ability to assign diferent modulations / effects to the top buttons the same way notes are applied in the note mode beta

edit: sorry, I now see you’re talking about the play — i thought you were talking about the tracker. Disregard!

yes i had suggested this a while back too before this voting thing, temporary hold performance vs toggle on/off performance option
