On the Play long samples produce clicks.
- Load long sample
- Place sample on steps close together
- Set tempo above 100bpm at least
Happens pretty much all the time, to varying degrees.
- Version: 1.4.1
- Build: 1099
Here is a project file, from the demo Ambient Pop, reduced down to one sample on one track in one pattern following the steps noted above.
Ambient Pop X.zip (1.8 MB)
@a444hz, Please take a look at the recording of two overlapping samples from the Ambient Pop that I attached. We’re trying to understand the severity of the problem. Are these the kind of clicks and glitches you experience?
5415.zip (426.4 KB)
Just for completeness sake, i’ve also opened the project and recorded the output from that pattern:
recording.zip (1.6 MB)
My play is on Firmware 1.4.1 Build 1099
@borsuk’s version is actually less clicky it seems. I’m guessing it was a rendered export from the Play.
My version is actually a direct recording of the output and yes, sounds more clicky.
Yes. As I’ve stated all along, there doesn’t appear to be any sort of choke going on, or at least not enough of one.
Same thing happens with the Tracker Mini by the way, though you can deal with it a lot easier on that device with the off commands, and in fact is perhaps excusable on that device because of the nature and design of trackers (I’ve come across it on other trackers as well).
Straight samplers shouldn’t run into this problem though, there’s generally some choking mechanism to prevent it, like a microfade or something along those lines.
Most recent desktop sampler I used was the Lofi-12 from SONICWARE and you could push that device to the limit and it would still go smooth. Some samplers I’ve come across will still produce some clicks if you really push them, and depending on the sample, but generally they are click free simply because they have to be. It’s part of being a sampler, there needs to be that smooth playback as much as possible, regardless of the circumstance.
@here We will do our best to resolve this issue and notify everyone interested when it’s ready.
