Oldschool Tracker Time Stretching

Hi folks,
This is something older tracker users already know but might be interesting for new peeps.
and because sharing is caring…

Back in the days we used a quick’n dirty method to time stretch a sample directly in the pattern using command 19 in Octamed for example.

This is how it works:

  1. In a 32 step pattern for example populate all the steps with the same pitch, lets say C5.
  2. Now use effect slot 1 or 2, select all steps and go to the fill tool.
  3. Fill all effect steps with the p command (position of your sample) from p0 to p100.
  4. It plays the sample in sync with the pattern length..reaaaally dirty and lofi.
  5. Experiment with the attack env of the sample a tad above 0 to get less clicks.
  6. Usually it sits just fine in the mix

Cool thing is, its not just restricted to time stretch, you can do stutter effects, reverse playback, stretch the sample from any startpoint and all the crazy stuff. Oldskool.

Have fun!

Here‘s another nice one in the same vein:

Don‘t sleep on using Granular Playback to achieve a similar effect.
You can then use the p command on a per step basis to change the playback position within the sample.

Can lead to super weird but nice things

Also congrats @Patrick your post is now the first entry in Scene > Tips, Tricks & Tutorials
