More than 2 step fx (Tracker Mini and Plus)

Voted as well! “Neighbor tracks” a la Octatrack would be nice (but with step fx instead of octa stuff, of course). Seems to already be what’s in use for the synths, BTW…?

This would be really useful with midi. If you record velocity and microtiming during live recording then you cant apply any other effects.

I’d like this feature as well. I’ve only had my Mini for one week, and I love it. Seeing as I’ve never used a tracker before, I/m amazed at how deep and yet easy it is to use. Watching a few YouTube tutorials has helped a lot though. It’s great for my daily commute.

Anyway, regarding more than 2 FX per step at a time. How about a key-combo that you could press to open an extra 2 slots on the track you are working on. You could add the 1 or 2 extra FX plus the value for the FX, and then use just press another key/combo to hide those extra 2 FX. To show what steps have the 2 additional FX on the fonts could maybe change to italic or bold for the first 2 fx to show there are another 1 or 2 step fx being used on that step. Hope that makes sense.

Would it be possible for the instrument to designate the track (e.g. TK1-8), then the 2 fx slots would be applied on that step to the track in question. Note could be ignored.
I have just got a Tracker and would love this capability, as I often want to vary the volume of a step in addition to 2 fx to change the tone of the instrument.

EXACTLY :clinking_glasses::heart_eyes: @ kevmarlowster

Normal track

01 C1
02
03 B2
04
05

SFX track

01 TRK1
02
03 TRK5
04
05

etc etc …

It be so awesome if we could rotate events… and remix/shuffle step FX around affectingly giving new result in real-time

Bonus: randomize tracks option instead of instrument
:v::sparkles:

I think double tapping would work:

Fx1 → Fx3
Fx2 → Fx4

…to not break the GUI logic.

This would work iin my brain, at least.

I think the shortcuts are not really an issue here. It’s more about the visual representation.

We do have colours. Instead of changing the FG colour, I’d perhaps change the BG. You won’t be missing a change of the background.

…and I’d change a whole column at a time, not just one value. So Fx1 would become Fx3 all the way from top to bottom

You could also fully expand the track column, but obviously for the price of one or two tracks less on the screen at a time.

What also could work is to double the line height and stack values in two lines per step… idk…

IMO being able to set/sacrifice a normal track for a dedicated step fx track (SFX) rings way more creativity vs adding colums.

Im just trying to vission the future where I hope/and assume that track rotation, independent resolution and step length will be tracker features (these are on the Play)… this would give a SFX track superpowers when it comes to happy accidents or creating unique moment.

Im not sure if all of these are doable but performance mode seams to indicate the tracker can handel independent track/ resolution lenghts… that woukd be amazing.

track rotation should be there 100% :sunglasses:
And it should be possible to do that independently for notes, instruments.FX1 and FX2 :fire:

I agree on the creativity part. But as far as I understand, the idea for the Polyend Tracker(+) is to mimic early 80s tracker software. Your idea seems to ring more with the direction the Dirtywave M8 and alike take.

I might be wrong. And to make it perfectly clear, I’m not judging your idea at all. I’m just pointing out that your idea might not fit the “product vision” and clearly takes into account and builds upon functionality that isn’t currently and/or never will be implemented.

No hard feelings! <3

EDIT: I guess what I’m really saying is: I’m not a fan of massive feature creep. I know how it can “destroy” a product over time. So take my comment for what it’s worth. I basically and for the most part, love the Tracker(+) as is.

To mock up the idea a bit more:

Notes:

  • The editor would need to prevent self reference to own track (i.e. in Track 2, could not add instrument of TRK2)
  • Using this approach does not require a dedicated FX track, any free slot in a track could be used to add addtional FX to another track.
  • The Note is free for further use - any ideas?

No offense taken, making assumptions of future features isn’t really a slod ground to build a wishful feature on.

And I agree on the simplicity thang but only on independent track lengths rather than anything else…
As at best it visually becomes like a scene fron the matrix movie :sunglasses: at worst everyone eyes become Strabismus

But grid resolution is native to trackers (renoise does it) its very usefull, both for more detail (higher resolution) to longer patters (crating sustained pad progression or simply working at half speed, wich I thought was a common tracker hack) I was actually very surprised not to find this in the manual.

Rotation is a simple yet an absolute VIP and being able to apply this on completely step or independently on fx etc would open a world of possibilities and speed up /simplify workflow

And a track dedicated to Step FX doesn’t complicate anything either. Just tracks destinations instead of notes

So I don’t think we are destroying anything :face_with_raised_eyebrow: on the contrary I believe these are next level features :sunglasses::kissing_heart::fire:

I’m not sure I agree. I think the Polyend Tracker took inspiration from the 80s tracker software but I fail to see why it would be artificially constrained in terms of updates. Thats progress, and allows Polyend to stamp their creativity on something that was great and take it futher.
I recognise of course that we should not make purchasing decision on expecting that something would be added according to our own personal desire, but I hope that the purpose of this Wishlist thread was to share our dreams and it’s fun to dream!

Can’t disagree!

Well…in the end, you could make some features optional if you really wanted to. So everyone could configure their tracker to their liking. I really enjoy the simple and fast workflow, not a lot of faffing about. I just don’t want to see this box becoming a jack of all traits (and subsequently: master of none), this would really kill the fun for me…(I have ableton for that…lol)

That’s a great idea. Or a long press on either FX1/FX2

I’d reserve long-press for Fx selection…just as it is now.

I placed a vote here, because I always record with velocity as note-expression is important for me, which means that I will always will lose 1 FX-Track and only have 1 left….
