Not sure if SanDisk Extreme 512GB SD Card is going bad or if it’s something else?… it happens when during navigating or previewing samples in my SanDisk Extreme 512GB sample files? Not sure what to do. Thanks Hope my Tracker itself is ok. :•|
Steps to Reproduce
Navigating scrolling thru sample files
And Previewing sounds sometimes. Just freezes & I have to power off. Happened a few times a week now pretty much every other time I use it freezes just navigating samples scrolling thru them or previewing them too.
Hi @carloitaliano ! I’m sorry you’re having issues with your Mini.
Since we don’t know how the device behaves when using the factory SD card, please let us know how it works in this case.
Crashes can sometimes occur due to issues with the SD card itself. Have you tried formatting your card?
Thanx for response and sorry for my tardy response. I think it’s just I have maybe too much samples kits on my 512gb SAN Disk Extreme card. Or it’s just going out on me. I’m gonna try a 256gb SanDisk Extreme Pro and see how that goes never had any whatsoever issues with any of my trackers I have a few mini’s and tracker+ so I’m guessing now it’s the SD Card I did have it for awhile and it has got some serious use reloading it erasing reloading more kits etc etc I think it’s just had its time lol and noticed I read lately people who use 256gb cards never at all have issues too it could be. So I’ll try the 256gb Extreme Pro by San disk. Maybe I’m just using older card that’s been worked to death and reloaded and loaded a lot on. I’ll post back soon thanx
Just wondering how many sample files you have in each folder? I found that the mini starts to get really laggy when my sample folders have >50 files in them. Not really tested this much though so I don’t know what the exact limitations are.
Actually some have 100-150 to 200-250 samples/sounds in each folder. Every kit and sample collection has its own folder with 100’s of sounds in them.
to be honest I was wondering if that could be the culprit too. A SD Card that’s to large at 512GB and also 50+ plusfolders of sample kits and drum kits some with 100-to 250 sounds/samples in each named kit sample folder. If its my bad for that and a fix is ok no worries time consuming to do it all again but that’s ok.
I just want to be sure to know maybe a threshold of each sample folders in SD card # to stay at;
for instance if I have a folder for specific samples and there’s 100-150 files in it, do I do it in one big file or split folder into 2-3 folders to even it out. For example Soul Samples instead of all in one folder do a: soul samples folder 1,2 & 3 lessen the load with multiple folders of same kit with less sounds in each one, so not all my eggs are in one kit/sample folder. That may be the issue too 512GB card plus each certain sample/kit folder can have 100’s+ in each bogging down the Tracker/SD Card. Hope this makes sense I had a long workday. I was told SanDisk Extreme Pro is the better SD Card and not to go over 256GB because people seem to have issues with cards over 256GB’s so I got those cards. So now I have to find the amount/# sweet spot for each sample/drum kits folder of how many sounds/samples etc should I not go over in each one of my sample folders. So I may just try above of for example again: Soul Samples not all in one same folder I’ll equally split up samples into folders soul samples 1, soul samples 2 & soul samples 3 and so on with other sample kits etc, hopefully that will help. I just Got the new cards just need to be more careful I think and just make multiple folders of one kit split out/spread within couple more folders. Etc hope that all gelled lol long day lol
@carloitaliano, trying out different cards, card providers, and capacities can be a good solution, especially if you want to use a card other than the one that came with the device. Just remember to format it with the FAT 32 MBR file system, then download fresh SD content from our website, and only then upload your samples. Let us know how it went.
Thank You I will do that and see how this 256gb SanDisk Extreme Pro works and I’ll make sure to format too. Thanks for your input I really appreciate it. Will be back with results BTW what SD Card do you use? Just curious
Ah also I formatted the SD Card on iPhone to FAT32 maybe that’s also why? Just realized that I didn’t use the SD Card Association FAT32 MBR way. Is that bad doing it on iPhone/iPad formatting?
I would not recommend performing such operations on mobile devices. We are unable to test all combinations of devices, cards, and connections. Therefore, I recommend formatting the card traditionally via a computer and connecting the tracker without USB hubs for data transfer.
I’m pretty sure iPhone won’t ever give you this level of control over formatting.
Regarding your question about SD card providers, we’ve used quite a few over the years, so it’s almost impossible to determine exactly which one you have.
Ok thanks for your help. I formatted all 256gb cards for my mini’s and my tracker+ on MAC with SD Card Association. Then I loaded Polyend files up fresh made sure updated firmware too as well. Then I only used a sd card reader to load my own samples on to sd card them once proper steps were all done loaded card up so far works great. I also made sure no Sample Kits or Drum Kits I loaded don’t have a single file with 10-20 subfolders with 200’s or more files. I made each kit a folder X-Kit Samples 1,2,3,4, etc with no more than a 100 sound or drum samples in each files so no more strain on all my trackers looking thru folders with up to or in between 200/500 files. All folders are topped off at 100 files in each, that’s it. All that plus shorter names for most files and folders,as well as subfolders. So far working perfectly no freezes or glitching out! Not even slow file browsing either. I think the problem me…, to many kits on a 512gb card with too many samples/Drum Breaks/1Shots hundreds and hundreds of files in each kit folder so I just made a files limit I’ll follow from now, no more than 100 sounds per folder/sub-foldets etc. Plus, also the added bonus of the new 256GB SanDisk Extreme ‘Pro’ Cards I just got! work’s better, faster & smoother than the regular 256GB SanDisk Extreme SD Card that I been using. Thanx for all your help ;•) Glad I got these SD Cards
