Hi @Dann and @Mitch, glad to hear that you understand the significance (and fun!) of having the possibility for immediate pattern change. I´m used to it from my Roland CR 8000 and it really helps to keep a performance lively and intuitive. Will definitely put that feature on the upcoming wishlist.
In addition to the Midi Out/Through - question, @bogii asked before: I understood, that the Midi Out - configuration is a hardware-thing that can´t be changed to Midi Through by a software update. Is that right?
Yep! My 2 biggest desires is the immediate change for both patterns and songs, and a way to create Song Set-lists of songs that can loop (Something like chaining patterns on the Play)
Regarding the Thru, I am ignorant on the subject. The MIDI currently comes into the Step, gets processed in the Step and then sends it to the MIDI Out. I would take a guess that there is a way via software to ignore all the processed data on the Step, and in that regards convert the Out to a Thru. However since MIDI has very specific standards, it’s possible that MIDI Thru by standards is required to be hard-wired.
my midi out jack was working fine since i got the device and last night it stopped working. i did all the trouble shooting one can do. the midi out jack on my step does not work.
It is under warranty so we can help you out - just file a support ticket please! It might take a little longer for the response time since we are at Superbooth.
Hi there. I love the Step but have not been able to get the Midi clock out to sync with a delay pedal (Wampler Catacombs) with a TRS/TRS cable. I have run a self check on the delay pedal which says the delay pedal is working - i’e receiving messages. I have set the ‘clock out’ on the Step to ‘jack’. Is there something I’m missing? I have not been able to get it to work.
Hey @jemaineclement, welcome to Backstage!
You are most likely running into this because the Wampler Catacombs uses TRS-A MIDI, while Polyend products always use TRS-B MIDI. So a straight TRS to TRS connection won’t work since tip/ring/sleeve are wired differently between the two standards.
If you got 2 TRS ↔ Cinch/RCA cable, you could cross the Cinch/RCA connectors part to eachother as a quick fix. Here’s a quick video about this.
Or you could cut a TRS and cross the wires to fix it.
For a slightly less messy solution: i think the Wampler should also have come with a TRS to DIN Adapter (so should the Step). You could use those and a regular DIN to DIN MIDI cable and that should work.
There are TRS-A to TRS-B converters/adapters as well:
