Hi folks. I’m trying to map my MIDI controller (Morningstar) MC6Pro to engage the Play and On switches on the Mess. I’ve got the transport in set, etc. and I am able to bump presets up and down with PC messages…that’s working ok. The manual though is a bit vague on how to control these: " To control Mess play start / stop and tempo, configure the external MIDI settings for the port connected which sends the respective messages. Also Mess can send clock and
Transport out to other devices, also set up in the MIDI configuration." But nowhere in the manual do I see how to what values to map here for those 2 functions? What am I missing here?

Your settings for external control are correct:
Clock in : Jack
Transport in : Jack
PC and CC in : Jack
PC and CC channel : to your liking
Transport start/stop is a separate midi message, not CC or PC. I had a quick look at the Mc6pro manual and there’s nothing about sending transport message.
MESS On switch is not midi controllable.
You will find all implemented CC on page 21 in the manual.

Thanks Patrick. For anyone else who might have this device, I did finally get it working. The Morningstar editor as a setting called “Real Time.” Start and stop commands delivered this way are turning the sequencer on and off. (It’d be nice if you could MIDI control effect on, but hey…that explains why the MIDI monitor didn’t register the event…)
