Master page for Midi

What is the problem?

There is currently no master page for midi, only normal tracks.

#midi midi-sequencer

What should this feature achieve?

A master page dedicated for the midi, which example shows which channel there is activity on and an option to mute it.

Are there any workarounds?

Any links to related discussions?

Any references to other products?

Thanks for the wish @gravedraq, I encourage this idea. A core place to see MIDI activity and easy mutes would be a very nice enhancement.

Thinking forwards, how would you envision one channel displaying Note On, Velocity and perhaps a couple CC parameters?

I always found that was the sticky point with showing MIDI channel activity as you need to separate the data. Would love to hear your vision of it.

we both have interest in being able to audit the midi-activity. My [Midi monitor view] idea was rejected with the business justification “Unfortunately, the wish doesn’t fit our current product design direction.” Though, that the road-map for this project has not been communicated, which makes it complicated to communicate wishes for the design direction.

But I think that adding these 8 tracks to the master page is not off-road from the design, but somehow naturally belongs/fit there and should not be hidden.

There are 3 aspects, which may need to be addressed here:
• We have midi channel 9-16 [These can only be used with midi instruments] [this is the focus here]
• We have midi/audio channels 1-8 [These can be used with both midi and audio instruments]
• We have midi instruments. [These can be used on both normal tracks and midi tracks]

My deepest wish, is still the rejected [Midi monitor view] as this will give a prober troubleshooting tool, if we should follow the design, it should maybe show a bars of example active pushed velocity or just note-on]
