Normal operations while editing a Macro can make visualization disappear and remain hidden. This gets in the way of editing Macros, because you have to leave the edit macro menu to get the visualization back.
Steps to Reproduce
Go to Menu → Macro → Timbre
Turn C1: Timbre visualization (name and bar) is displayed
Turn one of the knobs to change the macro value: visualization disappears
Hold a note on the grid and while holding turn C1 knob: no indication of macro in the top left part of the screen
Even if you release the pad and then turn C1, the visualization will not appear.
Hey there @Lizard-of-Oz. Sorry for the delay as we’ve been resting up during the holidays.
I’m currently unable to replicate this behaviour.
Once at the step to turn C1, I get a “Not Available” message that pops up. Would it be possible what you mean by “Edit Macro” in the first step?
Cheers!
Unfortunately I’m still unable to reproduce this. Only thing I could think that could possibly cause this is a scene from an older firmware as the C1-C3 knobs are not available when editing the Macros on the current firmware. I’ve tried loading 2 older scenes but still can’t reproduce.
I appreciate you taking the time though!
Wait, what? Why would C1-C3 not work while editing macros? How are you supposed to set the an adequate amount for each modulation then? Tweak it, exit the menu, test it, tweak it again?
And how could an old scene be responsible for that behavior then?
I believe we have some fundamental misunderstanding here. I’ll try again:
go to the menu page where you set the first macro’s targets and “values” (i.e. the modulation amount for each target)
turn C1 (the first macro’s knob)
you will see the visualization of that macro (a bar and most likely the word “Timbre”) in the top right of the screen
now turn one of the parameter knobs to change the currently selected target’s “value”
you will see that the macro’s visualization disappears
hold a note on the grid for the slot that has the macro you are editing, and simultaneously turn C1
you will see no macro visualization, at least until you leave the macro menu
So if indeed I understood you correctly, and the C1-C3 are not supposed to work while editing macros, the bug is in step 3, because nothing should happen there. But I still hope it is just a misunderstanding, and macros work all the time. Otherwise I’ll add a wish: make makros work while editing macros.
Yeah, the Macro works fine there, but the Macro visualization doesn’t appear as it normally does.
Where I was getting the “Not Available” is when you go one menu deeper to select a parameter to assign, you get the “Not Available” popup as you cannot assign C1-C3 to a macro
It’s the only thing that would make sense to me if we’re running on the same firmware.
Alright, I’ve given it a shot now, following the guidelines in the post I’m replying to here. If I understand the last point (“you will see no macro visualization, at least until you leave the macro menu”) correctly, I’m not really able to reproduce.
Here’s a (very handheld) video of me trying. What I did notice, though, is that when I’m turning the C-knob and a value knob at the same, they are “fighting” about what should be shown at the top of the display (as seen by the end of the video).
Once in a while, while messing around with this, I also stumbled upon something that sounds related to what you are reporting. Although I didn’t find a way to reliably reproduce this, it would sometimes not show the “Timbre: {value bar}” message in the top right corner when tweaking the C-knob while in the Edit macro menu. I found out that if I step out of that menu, and then step back in while touching the C-knob, things would work again. I recorded another video of this. Is this what you are trying to describe or just something similar to it?
From these 2 experiences, it definitely seems like the logic for controlling the top of the display could be handling some things more smoothly.
