Keytracking as modulation source

What is the problem?

Hello everyone,

I have been creating patchs on my Polyend Synth for the past few days. So far, so good. It’s a very nice instrument with very nice synth models and sample players.

The first thing I miss in the mod section is Keytracking as a modulation source. This one’s my favorite on my other synths and I was a little disappointed to not see it here. I would love to have it as a modulation source in the mod matrix OR as its own macro. I’d be happy with either or both.

Thanks
Korhan

What should this feature achieve?

Keytracking would add variation to each keypad on any synth machine. It would also enable the player to access a different part of the sample with each key/note in the Grain instrument. It can be a good modulation source for LFO rates, again creating slight or not-so-slight variation per key/note.

I imagine it to be an easy to implement feature, as it is featured on almost all synths I’ve used. It is already in there in Synth as Keyfollow for the filter.

Are there any workarounds?

No

This is something I’ve been planning to post since ages for Play+ synths, in a slightly different form though. Mind adding the Trackers and the Play+ as well?

yes please

I’d vote for this as well.
Very useful to tame high freq FM and physical modelling.

I’d prefer a macro because

  • note is MIDI information, just as velocity, for which we have a macro, so it’s reasonable to have keytracking as a macro as well
  • macro wouldn’t eat a precious mod matrix slot
  • not all of the synth engines have mod matrix at all (FAT, ACD), while all of them have macros
  • most parameters aren’t available in the mod matrix as mod tragets, while a macro can control any

For example, I’d like to assign keytracking to LFO rate and/or to LFO mod amount, but that wouldn’t possible if keytracking was introduced as a mod source.

What do you think?

Sure, keytracking as a macro is totally fine and I agree that it makes more sense.
