Issue starting device

This morning when I tried to start my synthesizer the display only shows the logo.

The power button and reset button are not responding. Everything is frozen.

What to do?

Hey @dubudetsun, welcome to backstage! :hugs:

I’m assuming you are talking about the Polyend Synth?
If so, here’s a couple things you can try:

  1. Unplug it from power and see if it starts up again that way.
  2. There’s a inset reset button by the usb port. This can help you do an emergency firmware flash, in case something went wrong there. Instructions can be found in the manual on how to use this (or my comment below).
  3. Take the SD card out of the device and find the /workspace folder (it might be hidden). Make a backup of it and delete it on the sd card. Then try again. This would destroy any unsaved progress you have made on your last “scene” though, so this is the nuclear option

Go chronologically (start with 1.), see which one works and let me know how it goes :crossed_fingers:

Hi,

Thank you for your kind advice!

Yes, you are right, I have Polyend Synth.

I did electrical cutoff, but again, next attempt to run my synth was also failed - I see the same Polyend logo.

Additionally, small reset button close to USB doesn’t react or help anyhow.

So, in that regard should I follow point 3 - SD card manipulation?

And one more question - Is that king of case of incorrect operation of those synthesizers already known?

And if yes, is there any way to avoid it?

Thank you so much!

Yes, i would try step 3 then.

Since the storage is a SD card sometimes things can just go wrong, they are fickle little creatures.
Which is always a good time to remind people to back up their cards on a regular basis.

My assumption is that maybe the power was cut off during a read/write operation, which may have caused this?

Let me know what happens, once you remove the /workspace folder. If that doesn’t work then we might be looking at something wrong with the hardware.

What are you using to power the device? The default power brick?

Thank you for your reply!

It’s true, I have used permanent normal 220v electrical power via original Polyend power adapter. And I didn’t notice any electricity cutoff.

However also true that SD manipulation helps!!! Even my scenes are there !

Big thanks!!!

So just to clarify, should I be wary about malfunctions of my synth? Or that kind of mistake let’s say I could expect from this device?

And another question, why small reset button doesn’t reacts or works in that occasion?

That’s good to hear. So it seems your /workspace somehow got corrupted.
Yeah your saved content should have not been affected by this. the /workspace folder represent only the current “open” scene or whatever you were working on that may not be saved.

No not in particular, but as i said - sd cards are a bit sensitive. So keep an eye out for:

  • Power fluctuations. Maybe the powersupply is faulty or your grid fluctuates a bit? If this happens again, try a different powersupply - any phone charger will do or a powerbank.
  • Maybe the sd card has an issue. If it happens again, try a different sd card. But only after you tried different power supplies.
  • If both of these suggestions don’t help and you still see this happening, please let us know!

Did you for example, remove the card from the device and load content to it from a computer before this happened? I personally never remove the card and only use the USB Storage mode when i need to access the device content.

Regarding Emergency Flashing:

I should have probably explained the process of the emergency flash. You can find it in the manual. Here’s the relevant page:

Thank you for your reply!

I, like you, do not welcome removing the SD drive unnecessarily. So I never touch it.

One more time thank you for solving this!

I will monitor the power brik, and I hope will not face any problem in a future

Clarification about the reset button. It is true that it is only used during Emergency Firmware Update after SD card manipulation (point 1-3)?
