Introducing The Polyend Synth

Oh, I’ve just thought a good option might be two rows of whole tones with one shifted one semitone up or down from the other giving chromaticism with easy both whole tone and semitone steps. That’s almost a good compromise.

Thanks for the tip!
I will do that tomorrow and also send some audio.
Yes, I’m on the latest available firmware.

My pleasure. You mentioned VAP at 3 voices with some reverb. Any chance you remember the patch you were using or was it a patch you created from scratch? Just curious as I’d give it a go to replicate it as I’m currently jamming on the Synth.

Unfortunately no. It was the first time using Synth so it was a mix of excitement with the device and confusion with the problems
I do remember loading one of the first Scenes and messing with it, hearing the crackles, then load a VAP engine in one of the synths, messing with the filters, adding reverb and then the massive audio dropouts happened.
I’ll try to replicate this tonight to send to Polyend.

I haven’t tested this enough to be sure, but there seem to be two types of crackles:

  1. The ones that come with a CPU busy warning. Probably related to… CPU being indeed too busy. I can’t replicate them systematically but then again I haven’t played enough. Looks like a bug, because the user shouldn’t care about the CPU; the device should set limitations to prevent that.
  2. The ones that come when too many voices and effects bring the volume over the dB ceiling. This is to be expected and would happen in any audio chain lacking a limiter. Given that other Polyend synths come with a Limiter, I hope we will see one here too, able to prevent this frequent problem.

Yes I’ve encountered both.
The one I mentioned is CPU related because even the menu interface becomes erratic while navigating.
The loudness problem deserves a better solution, I agree. Some sort of limiter like you mention would be nice.
I really hope they can fix these things. I really enjoy using it when it behaves:) (I’m forcing myself to be more restrained in the way I use it though I believe I shouldn’t have to)
It is a great concept and the engines sound really really good.
I sure wasn’t planning on buying a desktop synth  (I’m mostly in the eurorack realm)

One thing that I really like about the Synth is the Mixer being on the Scene level and not the patch level. It’s so convenient to dial in some reverb and delay on a synth to get a vibe that you are going for and then browse the patches of any engine with those FXs applied!

Hi mate,

I’m very interested in this layer synth. I was wondering if any users could perhaps elaborate a little more in depth about the FX section.

Everybody seems to kinda gloss over it.

Yeah the synth engines may be good but if the FX section has the same depth as Paris Hilton what’s the point.

Will Polyend spend more love on the FX section in the future?

What type of Reverbs are in the unit?

It’s all so vague. I’m an FX nerd. Lol.

I have the OG Tracker, the bread and butter reverb and delay are surprisingly quite serviceable but obviously limited in variation.

Cheers.

You can download the synth essential manual for SYNTH and page 25 and 26 shows and talks about the effects

Cheers mate, I will have a butchers

Edit. I have DLd the SYNTH manual.

The FX section looks comprehensive enough for what the unit is designed for, ie having fun.

I will get a SYNTH. But wait until April and call it a birthday present to my bad self.

new scenes for synth!! Get to know Ambient Artist Oora • Polyend

There’s something weird going on with these 4 new presets by Oora. Usually when you pick a scene anywhere in the list, and play it for a bit and then hit the scene button again it’ll go back to the last scene you were using. However when choosing one of these Oora scenes, each time you click the scenes button, it brings you back to the beginning of the scenes list.

I wonder if it’s due to them all being in CAPITAL letters. The other scenes aren’t in capital letters.

EDIT: Ok… Nope not because of capital letters. I just took them off the sd card and put them back on my computer (the sd card won’t let you edit folders for some reason). Renamed them without all capital letters, put them back in synth and it still happens?

I wonder if this would classify as a bug?

@Mitch @Sandroid @3xm @Dann

Thanks for catching that. Good news that it’s an easy fix. If you load then save the scene, it will stop jumping to the top of the page

Awesome, thanks for the quick fix idea until it gets fixed officially

Thanks you all. I’ll fix them and reupload on the website so no one else has this issue.

The name of the scene is stored within a file IN the scene. The foldername is unrelated. If that’s what you mean?

Oh ok! However the issue is fixed by doing what @Dann says. I just did that to the 4 scenes and fixed.

However when I was inside the SD CARD and was trying to edit the folder name to lower cases. Each time I saved it, it reverted back to ALL CAPITALS again lol. So I guess you can’t edit while inside sd card?

FAT32 isn’t very keen on uppercase/lowercase names. It kind of thinks they are the same  . That’s probably what happened here. So usually you would have to save them with a different name (atleast by one letter) for it to work.

Okay I fixed it on the website so shouldn’t be a problem anymore. Also maybe I’ll start a “free scene” thread as there will be a lot more to share shortly!
