Yeah it would be nice to be able to assign a midi channel to the step. I also have a midi pedalboard link up to a looper and a sampler.
Gizmo Views did a great video on is setup and how he use midi with the step and is pedalboard.

Hi Mitch, thanks for the info!! Do you know around which months the firmware 1.1 will be available?
Yeah in terms of traditional percussions, there are no dedicated kits.
I’ve been building up some Gamelan, Hangdrums, and more traditional kits for the Step out of my own sample library.
Would be a great idea for a Step-compatible Palette pack in the future @Mitch ![]()
Hey yeah, no. This is silly. The step doesn’t get to nullify years of my guitar pedal midi functionality. You guys need to fix this. It’s like making a car with a steering that doesnt turn
I’m with you dude. It’s not awkward at all. Mitch, I don’t understand your passive attitude about updating the Step so we can assign it to a specific and single midi channel? It’s a deal-breaking problem for your customers, right? So please explain to me how is it not jupiter-sized priority for Polyend to address?
That is the same topic across most of the polyend product lines, you and I will just be history when the next product drops.
We’ll add MIDI PC channel assignments and filtering in the first update, I understand it doesn’t work well for most people as is.
New beta firmware with MIDI PC changes! Polyend Step 1.1.0 Beta #1
Excited to have a STEP on the way
Hopefully arrives tomorrow or monday!
Hoping to see more updates for it in 2026 along with MESS too!
Loving these pedals coming out by Polyend. Bring out more! Maybe a guitar synth box next
With all of your synth options with a sequencer to be triggered by guitar and bass! Preferably polyphonic but even a monophonic one could be interesting if done right.
It’s lots of fun! Like a micro-play dedicated for drums. For how I work, it’s mostly freed up my Play for drum duties and can dedicate everything to melodic elements of a song.
I think we need some kind of Multi-channel MESS in the future. Or maybe I just need to get a couple more ![]()
I was playing MESS earlier and was thinking i love it but geez if this could do 8 effects at once that would be totally more awesome… so yes maybe another MESS is needed to join to get 8 going lol.
Boredbrain Patchulator and 8 Messes for the win!!
STEP providing fresh beats and more in all sorts of styles!
Anyone have any songs, kits, beats/patterns to share? ![]()
I hope polyend makes a kick ass looper in this pedal format too with all sorts of weird and crazy looping things! Also make a guitar/bass synthesizer in this format too ![]()
So who wants to help and show me how to put my own samples onto step and how to make my own kits etc. Treat me like I’m a kid that doesn’t know anything ![]()
Also is there a sample format that needs to work or can it take any kind etc?
Anyone elses “Song” knob a bit laggy / jumpy / skippy when using it and scrolling with it?
Seems like the only knob that doesn’t scroll smoothly when changing songs or going through setup menu etc..
Just wondering if it’s my unit or if this is normal for others?
Here is a well-made video specifically on the topic ![]()
Song knob is laggy a bit in the sense when scrolling through Songs as it needs to load the Songs. Other than that, on my unit it’s the same as the other stepped knobs.
Yeah but does it skip like it seems like sometimes you gotta turn it once or twice to go to the next etc? Also same behavior when using same knob in setup menu, when scrolling through the options it seems like sometimes it needs extra turns or sometimes skips an option.
The other knobs don’t act like this on mine.
Not that I recall, but I’ll give it a test later today and report back ![]()
Thanks. It’s not a big deal and if i go slower it works fine, but just was wondering if it’s normal or not ![]()
