What is the problem?
Being unnecessarily limited to 4 instruments. When it comes to anything a little more complicated such as a drum fill or a snare roll that sounds like a machine or just wanting to change to closed high hat to and open one, all of these are challenges to deal with being a 4 track drum machine, the hardware of it of course can’t change but there workarounds.
What should this feature achieve?
To be able to change instrument in the step control options. So for example I could change the high hat to an open high hat on beat 7. This would give user much more control, and instantly take away any limitations if the 4 track, and enable room to write and experiment in much more depth, without changing any hardware.
Are there any workarounds?
Currently I’m using the various controls per step to edit sounds, such as changing the cut off of an open high hat to recreate a closed, but these edits sound much more artificial than being able to change the instrument

The only competing foot control drum machine is the Beatbuddy, the step is better in every way except the beat buddy you can have as many instruments per pattern as you’d like, the most popular drum machines are often between 8-12 tracks. By adding instruments per step you can get the extra instruments without the extra tracks. Also one last note an option to double up samples per step, allowing to double up bass drums for example would also line up with this, the step would quickly be able to do most of what larger drum machines can without several extra tracks.
