Incorrect notes highlighted in chord or scale modes

Bug Description

When grids are set to Note mode, the root note is highlighted.

When a grid is set to Chord or Scale or Ch Scale modes, the 7th of the scale is highlighted not the root. Follower grids correctly highlight the root note.

Steps to Reproduce

Set one of the grids to one of the leader modes. Root notes will not be highlighted.

Occurrence / Frequency

Always

Hi @Fluoridevolcano !

Thanks for reaching out about this!

The issue you’re experiencing is most likely caused by the synth voice allocation being too low for the selected chord mode. Please check the voice count in Main Menu > Synths > Voices and make sure it matches the chord assigned to the backlit pad.

If only 1 voice is allocated to the selected synth and you want to hear the root note of, for example, a Min7 chord (which I believe is the issue in your case), you would need at least 4-voice polyphony on that specific synth, since a Min7 chord consists of 4 notes.

The reason it may seem like the device is playing only the 7th note of the scale lies in the software architecture. At the moment, this behavior is by design. When only 1 voice is allocated, the device will always play the highest note of the chord first, and that is the note you will hear.

I hope that helped

Is this still supposed to happen if an engine only has 1 or 2 voices?

If I understood you correctly, then yes - that’s exactly why this happens. You still need more voices if you want the engine to play chords.

The device cannot provide more than 8 voices of polyphony at a time. So, if you want to play a chord on one engine that consists of, for example, 4 notes, you are left with only 4 voices that can be used across all the remaining engines, regardless of how many voices are allocated to the other synths.
