How to sync Polyend Step with a looper?

Hi,

I need to record live guitar loops on Polyend Step drums, but there is a very big problem with the Sync between looper and drum machine. I have to resolve this problem, absolutely. Does Someone has a good idea?

Sorry, Dann, it is true. I’m trying to record guitar loops with my looper (Zoom Gx4) on the beats I created on my new Polyend Step drum machine. Unfortunately, after a few seconds, the recorded loops go out of time: there is clearly a technical problem upstream, it does not depend on my accuracy. Unfortunately, it is essential for my live performances to loop my guitar on the drum machine. How can I fix this problem? Many thanks, cheers

I suspect you need a better looper that supports MIDI sync.

Yeah as @stefan-0429 mentioned, you really do need to sync to MIDI. Wish I had something to recommend but the 2 loopers I have are both discontinued.

I use the Boss RC500 looper, it has 2 channels, syncs well and sends midi clock

I use a Walrus Audio Canvas Clock and a QuadraThru to sync all my gear.

  • The Canvas Clock is an awesome piece of kit. LOTS of sync options. Also, good for mapping presets across lots of gear.
  • The QuadraThru helps with more direct links, as not all gear does a flawless job passing Midi Clock along.

I use rc500 synced by midi with Tracker mini and they work great together. Though I really like RC500 for many reasons - there is one thing that probably need to be mentioned. RC-500 does a good job as a master. If for some reason you would preffer to us it as a slave - it sucks really bad.

Ah - that’s interesting to know: RC500 as a poor midi clock slave/client.

Been using a pair of Oberheim Digital Echoplex Pros (EDP) since 1996 - but I probably need to retire them, as modern gear sends far hotter signals that kills headroom on stacked EDP loops.

Have been looking at the RC505 mkII and Aeros. Will investigate further on how they handle being a Midi clock client/slave.

Changing Looper will be a workflow switch. One of its features that I use all the time was created based on my input. But change is good, right?
