What is the problem?
All played worksteps in a sequence are grouped exclusively with other plays, same as the skips (i.e. Play 1|Skip 3, Play 2|Skip 2, etc.). A small visual would look something like this (“O” for play and “\” for skip):
P1|S1: O \
P1|S2: O \ \
P1|S3: O \ \ \
P1|S4: O \ \ \ \
And so forth with the Skip/Play orders.
The difficulty with this is in stacking tracks to create longer sequences, leaving bars of notes not being played and/or playing over each other. While not impossible to make work by adjusting track lengths so that worksteps are in their proper places when they need to be, it means that most of the tracks being stacked cannot be longer than 16 steps, diminishing the ability to create a fully extended track (i.e. 64 steps by however many tracks the user desires to use).
What should this feature achieve?
This feature would streamline and broaden the functionality of the Play/Skip parameters by working in the same manner as making chord inversions by holding shift to adjust the order of the plays and skips being selected. With this, for example, the user could stack 4 tracks of 64 steps using the Play 1|Skip 3. While holding shift and turning the chance knob, the play orders would look something like this:
P1|S3: O \ \ \
P1|S3: \ O \ \
P1|S3: \ \ O \
P1|S3: \ \ \ O (a.k.a. Skip3|Play1)
Are there any workarounds?
Just using the smaller version of this function, with one of the Play1|Skip1 and Skip1|Play1 settings.
