Help, Play+ unusable with new firmware

It worked great for two days, and now just started glitching out. Was changing some parameters in Dirt & then this happened. Continues to do this even after powering off, and is completely unusable. Was about to bring on a trip out of town, but def not now

Here’s some vid https://youtu.be/7GkLndgQerY?si=FTPIRVZO06jzSUWX

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix???

Couple things you can try:

  • Start a new project and see what happens then
  • If that doesn’t help, reflash firmware. after flash, start a new project
  • If that doesn‘t help. Maybe your /workspace folder got corrupted. Delete it from the SD card (make sure to do this by mounting/unmounting the card when the device is off)

Warning: deleting the /workspace folder will delete any unsaved progress on the last open project.

This has happened to me a few times before. It might be worthwhile to shut it down and give all of the encoders a few good turns so see if theres anything physically causing the issue. Its no guarantee, but it has worked for me in the past. Hopefully you can get it working soon!

I’ve had same issue after firmware update. Please disconnect device from power supply for eg. 1 minute, and rotate every knobs offline. Connect it back and check. At least for me, it helped and my play+ worked without issues.

Thanks everyone, tried all the above with no success (except deleting the workspace folder) & other troubleshooting for over an hour. Powered it on the next morning and luckily worked with no issues

Sounds like a potential bug since others are experiencing this

This is exactly what happens to my Tracker.

Can you describe how you power your play+ and did you tried other power source - pc mac, powerbank, smartphone, powered USB hub? I assume from other topics on backstage that issue can be connected with ground or other electric interference.

@rupasix is right. There can be many reasons why a device acts up. The SD card sometimes can lead to trouble as well.

I think if it was directly attributed to the firmware, we would see an influx of reports here on backstage regarding the firmware, which is currently not the case.

If you need any guidance in things you can try, let us know. We are happy to help.

What exactly were the steps that you have tried so far?

I have been using the play+ with the same cable & adapter, and same micro SD since I bought it within a month of the original launch. Within two days of the new software this issue occurred

Did you try going back to the previous firmware?
Does that solve any issues that you may encounter at the moment?

If you need the previous firmware file, let me know.

@hut48ku According to the video, it’s most likely that some dust got into the Overdrive/Bit Depth potentiometer, causing the values to jump on both MIDI and Audio pages.

The update is probably just a coincidence.

Please try turning this potentiometer a lot, at a high pace, for a few minutes. I had the same issue with my Play+, and it helped instantly.

Alternatively, if it doesn’t help, there is a small chance that the potentiometer is touching the metal chassis of Play. Please try GENTLY bending it up/down and left/right.

Please let me know if it helps
