Hey!
I created a bunch of Step Pattern Ideas to play with, and thought other folks would be interested.
The patterns here are inspired by drum literature because drummers have spent decades
solving the same problem Mess users face: how to create movement, tension, and evolution.
I’ve “translated” them here across four voices (TR1–TR4) on a step grid.
These are guided rhythmic experiments, not sonic recipes.
- A “Bossa Nova” pattern won’t make your guitar sound like bossa nova.

- A “Techno” pattern won’t turn your voice into a kick drum.

What you’ll hear depends entirely on your choice of effects, your parameter settings, and your source material. The patterns provide a rhythmic structure.
Think of these as starting points for discovery: structured guides that give you a variety of rhythmic frameworks to explore.
What this guide is:
-
Pattern ideas for Polyend MESS
-
Rhythmic sequencing concepts
-
For guitar, synth, and texture-based work
-
A source of new starting points
-
A mix of groove and experimental ideas
-
Includes odd cycles and generative structures
What this guide is not:
-
Not a preset library
-
Not a how-to manual
-
Not a drum pattern book
-
Not genre dogma
-
Not limited to one workflow
Experiment!
Make mistakes!
Abuse and deconstruct the patterns!
There are no mistakes, only discoveries!
Have fun!!
