First time using a tracker, dealing w/ bpm on breaks

I’ve been making music for over 20 years. Switched to Ableton when version 1.5 came out. I very recently got an og tracker and I’m super excited to make some jungle inspired tracks w/ this interface.

With the polyend tracker what is your workflow for including breakbeats?
Do you prepare them in a daw beforehand? Do you worry about BPM before importing them into the polyend, or simply import raw breaks and use functions in the polyend to pitch up and then find the matching tempo?

Hello and welcome! Stazma has a ton of breakbeat tutorials with the tracker, just search YT for “Stazma Breakbeat Tracker” - Here is his latest Tracker video - For + but a lot applies to OG Tracker too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMd1hWKqAmU

Hey @Taperecorder welcome to Backstage!

Stazma indeed is a good address when it comes to Tracker and breaks, so definitely check out his stuff.

All the possible ways you mentioned are valid ways to using breaks on the tracker.
It really comes down to which way suits you best.

  • You can either use a single sample and create a beat sliced instrument
  • you could chop it up and use single samples for it.
  • you could just use a simple sample and using playback positioning to control which parts to play

So many ways and they are all valid.
