Firmware Update Failure on Polyend Play 1.6 – Device Reboots Without Installing

Bug Description

When attempting to update my Polyend Play to firmware version 1.6, the update process fails at the initial stage. After initiating the update either through the system menu or by pressing the physical reset button, the screen briefly goes blank, then displays “device is preparing for update” for about 3 seconds. I hear an audible click, and the device shuts off and reboots without completing the installation. The new firmware is not installed.
I’ve performed this update process successfully many times before, but this issue persists even after:

Downloading fresh SD card content from Polyend’s official site

Using a clean SD card with only the latest firmware file loaded
Now, the device also fails to recognize the SD card on boot, displaying “Insert SD card” even though it’s inserted correctly. I am currently unable to use the device due to this issue.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Attempt to update via:
    a. System menu → firmware update, OR
    b. Pressing the physical reset button.

  2. Screen goes blank briefly
“Device is preparing for update” message appears for ~3 seconds
    Audible click
Device shuts off and reboots without updating

Occurrence / Frequency

Hi @raoul.arboite, Thank you for reaching out about this issue.
Apart from downloading the fresh SD content, have you formatted the SD card?

  1. Back up all of your projects and your own samples using the USB dongle
  2. Format the SD card (the format needs to be FAT 32 MBR)
  3. Download the fresh SD card content from our website
  4. Copy the SD card content and new firmware onto your formatted SD card
  5. Copy your backed-up projects onto the SD card
  6. Turn on the Play and see if it helped

Looking forward to hearing from you!
