File sharing recommendations

Recently well known file sharing service Wetransfer has made some not so fun headlines, for changing their policy to train AI models with the data you upload.

According to the latest terms and conditions, if someone uses WeTransfer, they grant the brand a royalty-free license to use their content for operating, developing, and improving the service. The clause also included a provision stating that uploading files to WeTransfer gave the company the ability to use the content to “improve the performance of machine learning models.”

They promptly had to walk that back.

File sharing site WeTransfer has rolled back language that allowed it to train machine learning models on any files that its users uploaded. The change was made after criticisms from its users.

This was a good reminder to update the file storage/services recommendations in the how-to sections of this forum and remove Wetransfer as a recommendation.

But since not everyone reads those, i thought it would also be a good idea to discuss this in general and hear if people have other services they trust. Here are my personal recommendations:

The other usual suspects (unclear policies):

For temporary storage I tend to use https://sprend.com/, and as far as I can tell they aren’t gathering data for ML.
