This is curious. Synth Local Mode = On. Yamaha MODX 5 pin midi out cable into Synth’s midi adapter. Play MODX and the Synth Yellow and Blue engines sound but not the Purple. And the Synth pads still produce sound on all three engines. This was tested on a few of the factory scenes. Setting Synth to Local Mode = Off, I still only hear the Blue and Yellow engines, no Purple, when I play the MODX. And, of course, now Synth pads make no sound on any of the three engines.
And, if the Grid is set to, say, minor then I can still play a major scale on the MODX and hear the major notes from Synth. If I play a single note on the MODX, if the Yellow or Blue engine is set to chord, then I still only hear a single note. This is understandable, I guess, for right now - not hearing a chord when I play a single note on the MODX.
But what I don’t understand is why I’m not hearing the Purple engine with my MODX as an external controller with Local Mode set to On or Off.
FWIW, I’m using a SIGNAL-FLEX Midi cable. From a related thread on this forum, it seems like different midi cable brands might perform differently. That’s why I’m mentioning it now.
The channel on which my MODX sends midi data is set at the performance (scene) level. I’m using a MODX performance with two parts. I set Part 1 to send midi on Channel 1. (MODX Part 2 midi send is turned off for the time being). Synth responds to this Channel 1 midi assignment by playing the Blue and Yellow engines at the same time. If I set Part 1 to send on Channel 2, then nothing plays on the Synth. If I set Part 1 to transmit on Channel 3, then I hear the Purple engine.
Now if I turn off MODX Part 1 midi send, and turn on Part 2 midi send and set Part 2 to send on channel 3, then Synth responds by playing the Purple engine only.
If I then turn Part 1 midi send back on and set it to send on Channel 1, and leave Part 2 midi send on and set it to send on Channel 3, then I can hear all three Synth engines - yellow, blue and purple - playing at the same time.
So, in summation - I still think there’s a problem in that Synth is responding to midi Channel 1 by playing the yellow and blue engines. And Synth is not responding at all to midi Channel 2. And, finally Synth is responding to midi Channel 3 by playing the purple engine.
Fortunately with a two part performance on my MODX, I am able to send on both midi Channels 1 and 3 at the same time (one channel on each part) at least for that specific MODX performance.
Dann - I see now! I had the Midi Jack for the purple engine set to 3. I changed it to 1 (just like the blue and yellow engines) and now all three engines sound when sent midi notes on Channel 1.
Now my question is this…. Why is the Midi Jack as well as the Local Mode edit included on a scene specific edit screen? And if you change Midi Jack and/or Local Mode, it affects all scenes even if you don’t save the scene. (The Voice # assignment does not get saved on this screen after you edit it unless you save the scene). Is there nowhere to put Midi Jack and Local Mode on a global edit screen?
