Expand pattern pages by allowing for selection of variations of upcoming pattern in a chain

What is the problem?

The user must commit to a single configuration of steps per pattern before beginning the sequence, even though up to 16 variations are available. This forces the user to use another pattern to contain the new variation.

What should this feature achieve?

This would allow the user to utilize more variations per pattern by sending the Play a midi message (or maybe just a really low note) to select a new variation in the pattern that is about to play in a chained sequence. For example, if the user had a chain of 4 patterns, with each pattern containing 4 variations for each track, an external midi controller could tell the play+ to use the steps contained in variation 2 after having played variation one, etc. This would effectively turn these 4 patterns into what the user must currently use 16 pattern slots to create, thereby reducing the space needed for a pattern chain while expanding the amount of possible patterns available.

Are there any workarounds?

It is currently not possible to select a new variation for an upcoming pattern
