Digital Outs for all tracker series?

Just dreamin… What If the 3,5mm jack of my OG Tracker would be equipped with a red lamp light for toslink? I have seen a jack like this e.g. in a 2011 Mac book pro (easy to use with linux) or many old FSC Laptops.

I just want to put this into tracker! Guess why…

My thoughts are that the trackers got intern the 8 audiotracks, which have no phisically output, so they are already there.

it could be set as an option in config.

configuration 0: Analog Stereo out

configuration 1: SPDIF Mode Digital Master stereo out monitoring in Realtime via Spdif (Master)

configuration 2: ADAT Mode 1: the master is ignored, but the 8 dedicated audiotracks are routed to ADAT OUT

configuration 3:: ADAT mode 2: Master, Reverb, Delay and line out as dedicated stereo tracks routed to ADAT OUT

that would fit to the whole concept of these 3,5mm jacks and I can imagine what the polyend adaptercavle “Optical 3,5mm to toslink” could loOk like. This would be nice for OG tracker.

And the Tracker+ also gots potential to use it also for ADAT in.Just imagine!

I just wonder if this would work like this, havent seen it yedt, that gear uses a 3,5 mm optical jack for AdAT… But why not??

As someone who’s studio is all ADAT, an optical on a Tracker would be amazing!

yeah, me too that’s the thing. and for all other people the spdif protocol would also be a nice alternative. no latency, no more less quality because of analog routing… New Live possibilities, and so on.

And this with OG Tracker…! my heart is burning. Just need an optical Jack and some firmware changes…?

I’m highly doubtful this would be doable on the OG. But i’m not an expert.

heres a place to start for hackers ready to risk it all

and isnt it usually the I2C protocol that needs to be converted to spdif

Ok think I have to show what brought me to the idea:

Imagine your tracker had 2 combojacks like that instead of the regular. (in/(out)

The next step would be the firmware changes.

digital output modes:

Configuration 0: Standard analog stereo output.
Configuration 1: SPDIF output for stereo monitoring in real-time.
Configuration 2: ADAT mode for sending individual audio tracks digitally. (maybe ignoring the master section…
Configuration 3: ADAT mode for sending grouped tracks (Master, Reverb, Delay, etc.).

Imagine what your track could do with this for exampel :

yes, there 8 audio outputs OR CV outputs (configurated by jumper), nice eurorack module btw

…or you connect it via spdif with the gear of your choice, maybe your usb interface. It acts in realtime. no digital/analog problems

I would prefer a concept like this instead of usb support. For me it fits better for a workstation like tracker

i’ve actually never seen this in a notebook. That’s amazing though :joy:

I personally use a Boredbrain OptX and yes i would have LOTS of ideas how to use those 8 channels :joy:

The first time I saw it was when a friend of mine used his Fujitsu Amilo notebook with linux for producing live music. I understood immdieately, that it would be nice to build a digital realtime connection. No latency. And where the red light flashes there is also a possibilty to use adat…

DOn’t know if there are still other notebooks having that. Not easy to find out much about it. But everyone wants to sell you cable adapters that fit…

As an owner of the Expert Sleeper’s ES-9, I think this is a wicked idea!

If there wasn’t the neccessarity to do theese hardware changes, it just could be a another device wish for the whishlist system.

Now if there was a way to create some kind of modpack that would allow licensed repair services to make the hardware changes, all in one kit. There would then have to be a dedicated firmware available for download and everyone would be helped. Polyend would just have to allow it.

What do you think of this idea in principle? Should I put it out of my mind and “just do it myself

I think your idea is absolutely genius. I feel like a Upgrade DIY kit would be awesome. Earlier this year my Jogwheel needed to be replaced and the Polyend Team provided me with an exchange kit to solder myself. It was a super easy fix. I would feel comfortable to solder other stuff into my beloved Tracky.

i predict this to be a pipe dream, if we are talking customized firmware

Yes, it’s difficult, because it simply wouldn’t work without it.
