CPU almost always in Red

Is it normal or problematic that both my Tracker+ and Tracker Mini always have the high cpu usage indicator on? I feel like it starts going into the Orage/Red with 2 synth tracks and 2 sample tracks.

Is there a way to know what exactly is taxing the CPU so much?

If you email me your project I can take a look at it and see. I think this was updated to be in the latest manual, as of T Mini 2.0 and on Tracker+ we allow you to exceed CPU limitations. The first noticable thing when maxing out the CPU is the screen refresh rate, last thing affected is the audio playback.
The bar will flash red when at 99% of CPU
About colors, it is:

  • 85% yellow
  • 93% orange
  • 99% red
  • However to show this we are looking at the maximum momentary load, in a simplified way: between refreshes of that “status line” we make about 100 measurements and if just one exceeds the value, then we display this line, so sometimes it may appear, but in general there may be no problems with performance.

All this to say, it isn’t a perfect CPU measurement but more of a warning. I think in your case if you aren’t seeing slow screen refresh rates or performance issues then likely there is a .01 second action that is causing the CPU to spike for a moment but looks like a larger issue than it is. We decided to keep the CPU meter and alow you to exceed the limits of the CPU instead of arbirarily limiting the voice count or other features. So for example you can technically have 15 PERC voices load up - however if you play back all 15 at once and send MIDI out and 8 samples at once you’ll likely exceed the CPU.
