I’m curious if anyone has any experience playing a live set with Play or Tracker?
Would this setup work? Is it possible to get it even more slim or minimal?
2 x USB Power for Play/Trackers
2 x AC Power for Mixer and Press
Utilize onboard effects to maintain focus and reduce clutter.
Option to potentially run stereo FX pedal between Play and Mixer if more modulation is necessary.
I feel like this setup would be addictive and would punch pretty hard.
I’m also curious in general of other small/minimal setups.
Totally doable. You’d probably want to sync the 2 Devices via MIDI. You inspire me to see if there are any boxes out there that supply both AC and USB power!
Would be cool to have a little flight rack rig with a power conditioner in there. One switch to flip everything on.
I picked the Numark as it was the cheapest cross fader option with que headphone output and proper stereo I/O on the back. Would be cool if there was something more minimal with FXs or I/O for sends/returns/aux.
Just sort of thinking up a little rig that would be powerful, fun and easy to play out with.
I’m currently eyeing the K.O. Sidekick specifically for a similar setup (2x Tracker or 2x Play or just small compact mixer for multiple devices).
So far i’ve used a Reloop 2 Channel dj mixer, which works, but regular DJ Mixers are just bulky as hell.

You can’t see it, but offscreen everything goes into the DJ Mixer and the output goes to the Press. I didn’t really need to fade between the two here, which is why it’s out of the picture.
I’m currently contemplating between getting:
Teenage Engineering K.O Sidekick: closest to a traditional dj mixer, usb interface
Zoom LiveTrak L6: more channels, direct recording, basic effects, usb interface
I like that both can be used as USB interfaces. That means you could run AUM on an iPad, which you could use for all sorts of additional processing on the incoming channels.. and then send everything back out.
Of course, if having a physical Fader is the point, then this will still require something additional to achieve this. I think it’s probably doable somehow.
I’m currently trending towards the zoom, purely for recording capabilities and because it has more channels. But have not made a final decision yet.
I am so impressed with how hard your mixes punch with the one setup I’ve seen in your videos.
I picked up the Zoom L6max a couple of months ago. It is a beast and covers so much ground.
It also receives CC, so you could bring a Nano Kontrol2 or MIDImix or Launch Control and get your fader control over the Zoom.
You can also configure submixes to do que-ing and all that.
If you are using Live Trak you also get the beauty of aux/sends which could also be controlled from midi controller.
I’m going to rebuild my diagram with Zoom L6 and see if it feels “compact” enough.
THIS is exactly what I was looking to see. This dual Tracker with the Technic 1200 is insane. Would be cool to see this same setup with a synth or another drum machine on the side in place of the Technic 1200. Super fun.
Yeah i did some live gigs with the Play as the main sequencer. Using the Play audio for playing samples and its MIDI side for driving external gear (td3, rd9, digitone…). The last gig i had very minimalistic setup - Play+Synth+ModDwarf… And used the “secret multi audio” feature on Play and Synth aka hardpanning to separate some sounds and use the separate output (kicks were on one side, percussions on other) and use that for dicking on the dwarf… It is pretty usable setup. But beware with the hard panning, it only woks properly when sound setup is set to flat, with all other sound settings there is some bleeding between left and right.
For me what works best is heavy use of variations on tracks, and using patterns to move betwee different “scenes”.
But what works best for me is adding oxi one as second midi sequencer to the mix. on the oxi one there is main skeleton of the performance, polyend is used as “performance” sequencer, where i find easir to do edits on the fly.
Did you end up with the Zoom LiveTrak L6:?
I’m looking at it - like that it’s small. But a lot of reviews seem to point out the L6 Max has much more to offer for a modest increase in size.
I was between L6 and L6 Max. The screen is really helpful and the extra channels are good, however, the Max is just a little too big for me. I envisioned carrying it around with me everywhere and being able to use it for recording audio for videos. My buddy has the L6 and his fits snug in a sling bag, so when he goes to events, he can discretely/quickly pull an aux cable from the bag and record anywhere.
L6 Max would be sick for live band setup - wish I had one a decade ago.
I ended up getting the LiveTrak L6 because it’s just more versatile for me. If i ever need a performance / dj style mixer, i might add a Sidekick down the line.
Already used it for an outside event/expo and at home for video production and i‘m super happy with the L6.
I don’t really need the screen and the additional channels of the L6 max, so the pricepoint of the L6 was perfect for me.
A little late to the party, but an interesting solution for live setups. Especially if you’re interesting in livestreaming.
I just picked one up and am pretty impressed with the results. It’s powered via usb or battery and I can record performances directly to my phone. 2 stereo line inputs, a headset i/o, a stereo intstrument input for keys and a mono for bass/guitar, xlr with phantom power, and it’s smaller than the tracker mini. I found mine for a little under $175 here in the states. Nothing performance or fx-wise, but for minimal setup it’s surprisingly solid and integrates easily.
