Hi,
Loving the Play but when using the pads for playing notes I’m finding them a bit small. I have a novation launchpad mini mk3 and was wondering how/best way to connect the two so that I can play notes on the novation. I’ve tried a few different leads but having a problem powering the Play whilst trying to connect the pad over USB and also I can’t power the novation when trying the 5-pin DIN because it only has one USB C input.
Also, if need to buy a midi hub/interface could you recommend one please?
Thanks for any help!
Hi and welcome!
You need an usb midi host because lp mini mk3 has no trs.
Doremidi usb midi host does work quite well and is on the cheaper side.
You can connect trs to 5din and usb host device.
Hope this helps
Thanks Patrick but I’ve learnt the hard way “Buy cheap, buy twice!” and there are some poor Amazon reviews about build quality for that product
I see here -
- that they have a few devices with TRS out (obv. not the Launchpad mini mk3) so looks like the Launchpad Pro MK3 or the Launchkey MK4 Mini look like good options but could you confirm that Type A is the correct one please? Thanks!
I personally use cme and have one from doremidi too. Never had a single problem.
I also have a Launchpad pro mk3. Trs is Type A. Play is Type B.
Ah ok.
There are adaptors for A to B , like this one -
- and to be honest I fancy the chord modes on the novation launchkey mini mk4 (to use with Ableton on the pc, not with the Play!) so might well give that a try.
Thanks for your help
Glad to help! Btw Launchkey Pro has also a chord mode and 4 separate sequencer.
Launchpad Pro?
You know, it’s funny because I had that exact model but sold it two months ago and bought the mini because of desk space issues. Only really used the pro to launch clips in Ableton tbh even after installing the Scales firmware update. Oh well lol!
