Conflicting Visions of Play+?

I love my Play+ <3

The Beta Shows for me that my Usecase for the Device is different from the Dev-Team Vision i think(kind of maybe). I love your work Polyend so this post is spoken in love for your work and nothing else. Its kind of a Feedback

Sadly I will not use any feature of the new Beta because its all basicly live Stuff. The Play + is a musical sketchbook for me and its a great one, but no live device. I think the priority for the devs is sadly some kind of Livedevice currently and this brings some problems for me. Here some examples

  1. I never use the Playmode but i love it: thats a really sad think tbh. Its so nice to “Play” with this mode but with no way to record this mode its completly Pointless for me and i never use it. I proposed a recording feature or even his own playmode sequencer like effectrix VST in the Request and the Devs said they had another Vision for the play. Thats okey but for me that means that feature will stay untouched for me also the Midi Version. :frowning:

  2. I am not a fingerdrummer. And without Recording the fingerdrumming its sadly also not for me. I also dont see me ever using these pads on a livegig for fingerdrumming even if i would be capable.

  3. Arrangment: the Arrangment is very slow sadly copy paste takes a long time. Thats a real workflow killer. I use the mode so i can export all variantations of the patterns at once and thar cant be the point of it

  4. Synth: the synths sound ok for me. Perc is really great and i love the WTFM. But i never use the tonal synths and just sometimes Perc. The problem is the editing: this list of parameters and this encoder is no great experience to use. I hope we get some UI refresh from the Synth.

  5. The sample Management is great for Soundpacks and bad for the rest tbh. I have many samplefolders and these folder and file lists are really bad to navigate in this UI just like synths but even a littlebit harder to navigate. Making custom folders and filling them is a littevit cluncky but would be great for the random modes.

  6. Fills are also not to nice to navigate. No categorys or something like that, just a list.

  7. Melodic Sequencing is a mixed pack. I never use the piano roll its to clunky for me. But to use the note and pitch button is also no great expierence for every single MidiNote. The keyboard mode is usable but not great on this Pads and there is no second usb for external gear.

  8. No mixer: no problem for me tbh but for some.

  9. some UI touches would be great i am not sure if this is possible with the idea behind the UI but it would be very welcomed

That a my major downsites of play and i am not sure if they will get adressed.

I love this device i cant get away from it i take it everywhere (just not on a gig). Its okey that the Dev-Team has a clear vision for it and its ok that its not my workflow. But i just want to tell here what the device is for me and thats a Studio device on the go for composing. Maybe some points can be fixed in the future i am sure not all but anyway…thanks polyend for bring this Device in my life.

Perhaps you see it as a conflicting vision; for me it’s a device that still blows my mind to see how many people are using it in different ways. It’s great to have your vision, any if there is any feature you’d like to see on the Play, then you’re invited to send a feature request!

Well i think the context was missing a bit. I did a request with recording or sequencing the Playmode and i think i remember that polyend sayd something like “we have another vision” or “direction” for the product. Conflicting vision may be a bit big but you cant really priorities all workflows. Thats ok and i am fine wirh it. But its a missed worflow for me sadly. For example: there is exactly one way we can use the Playmode without sequencing or recording it and that is triggering it live and record in a DAW (i am missing something for sure). I am not a fingedrummer or someone who has the timing for recording etc. Im a DAW Person (sadly).
The focus on fingerdruming and missing recording made me think they may have a vision for a live focused device. Shure i will find my ways arround in the Device but it matters for what you build something.

Like i wrote i love this product and the company. And just wanted to bring maybe some awarness for my worflow and the problems i and maybe others also see. (well that sound kinda selfish sorry for that its like unasked customer research  )
