I have a handle on how to record audio from the Synth into my DAW (Logic Pro) but, I cannot seem to figure out how (if it is even possible) to record the MIDI notes out of the Synth and into my DAW
Is this possible? If so, how?
Also, can I use the Synth to play/control software instruments in my DAW?
Hey there @DYSTmusic, welcome to backstage. Great to have you join us here
Happy to help. Just to start from a clean slate, I’d suggest pressing Scene, and then pressing Init, to start from an Initialized patch.
Next, press the screen encoder, and click on the first option, Synth. From here, you can set the MIDI device and channel for each Synth. If set to Jack, then that would be the physical MIDI out on the Synth. When set to USB, then it’s using MIDI over USB. Since you can have different sections of the grid addressing different synth, you can use up to 3 different MIDI channels to control 3 different external MIDI control devices.
As for using the Synth to Control VSTi’s, you can assign the Control Change (CC) messages to your Virtual Synth. Each synth can be implemented in different ways, so you’ll either have to find how the CCs are mapped on your instrument or if it has a “learn” function, you can use that to map the Synth controls to your instrument.
You can find the Synth CC mappings that @inz1 was very kind to write up for the community below.
Hope that helps!
I was able to get the MIDI notes from the Polyend Synth into my DAW (Logic Pro)
However, the MIDI notes do not make any sound - they are merely MIDI notes - how do I get the MIDI notes sent by the Synth to DAW to play the sounds from the Polyend?
I realize I can record the Synth’s audio and MIDI simultaneously on different tracks but looking to have the MIDI track play the Synth’s internal sounds
