Any way to synthesize bongos?

A while ago, I had this old drum synthesizer called the Mica Sonic Electric Percussion - an actual set of drum pads from the 60’s. It could make rudimentary conga/bongo/woodblock sounds.

I have tried with the various synth engines to get a close approximation - the physical modeling synth gets closest, but it just isn’t a drum synth - not in the way I’m looking to hear “drums” in any case.

Yeah, I can grab a sample or two and make three distinct drum sample channels and do it that way, but I am hoping for a synthesis method.

@Dann , any word on the street that we might get some sort of drum synthesizer to wring sounds out of this amazing Synth?

Honestly I have no visibility as to what is coming to the Synth next, so unfortunately nothing I can share with you there.

Phase/Frequency modulation is really good at getting those types of sounds as well as Physical Modelling as you mentioned. If I can find a bit of time, I’ll see what I can whip up with the WTFM engine this weekend as I’m pretty well versed in FM synthesis

Thank you, @Dann - it’s such a lovely sound, those Twin-T Oscillators - really wooden. Sounds great on tape.

I’ve never heard of this design but am just reading up on it now. I’m inspired to see if I can re-create this in Reaktor. Damn there goes my weekend

Yeah, they’re really nice little oscillators- I think the Roland CR-78 has them. I’d use my little Behringer clone to play them, but I just wish they were in the Synth. I am a lazy :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
