Press - artefacts during compression, possible unit fault

Hi all,

I’m having an issue with my Press and wanted to check here in case others have seen something similar, while I also wait on a support ticket.

Symptoms:

  • Artefacts appear specifically during active gain reduction, even at mild compression settings (low ratio, moderate threshold)
  • Signal-dependent: clean at low levels, artefacts appear as signal gets hotter
  • Tested on three different 9V center-negative power supplies (two switching, different current ratings, one rated 1.5A, well above the 350mA minimum), same result on all
  • External sidechain tested both engaged and disengaged, no difference
  • Used correctly in Line Stereo mode, fed as the main insert on my mixer

I’ve submitted a support ticket (via the web form and by email to support@polyend.com) but haven’t heard back yet. I have a gig this Saturday and was hoping to use the Press, so I’d really appreciate any input, whether that’s someone who’s seen this before, or a nudge to the team to help move things along.

Thanks!

Hey @spud93, welcome to Backstage!

When you say artefacts.. what do you mean exactly?
What do those artefacts sound like?

Hi there,

They sound like kind of distorted noise bursts / crackles when the compressor kicks in. I have a recording of the wet and dry signal that I’ve attached below. The wet starts around 18 seconds in after a moment of silence. I’m hoping that this can be resolved before the gig on Saturday!

Looks like support has already gotten a hold of you

Turns out ot be a faulty device and a RMA has been started.
I’ll schedule to close this topic, if that’s ok
