Polyend Mess connections

Hi,

I’ve recently bought a Mess but I am unable to connect it. I also got a Jack stereo to 2x Jack mono but I can only listen to noise. My main objective is to connect it to my audio interface and use it on my DAW (Ableton) but even if I connect it directly to a synth it doesn’t work.

Can someone help?

Thanks.

Hey @amperor , welcome to Backstage!

It’s kinda hard to figure out what the issue could be based on your description.
Here’s some questions for you, that might help us narrow down what is going on:

  • How are you powering the device (what powersupply are you using)?
  • What cables are you using to connect TO the MESS (TRS?)
  • What cables are you using to connect the MESS to your Interface (TS?)
  • When you say noise, what do you mean exactly?

If you can, could you provide a video of how you have things setup and what is happening?

Hopefully we can figure things out this way :hugs:

It may be your power supply. I originally used a daisy chained psu connection for my Mess and it was very noisy. I then tried an isolated Coda Music 9V 1.7A psu with a noise reduction filter and no more noise.

From the online MESS AI Assistant:

*“First make sure the MESS is powered correctly and has its microSD card installed.

Then test the simplest path: synth into Stereo In, Left Out to your interface or amp, and set {On} to Off so only the dry signal should pass through.

If you do not hear clean dry audio there, the problem is likely power, cabling, or input/output routing.

If dry audio works, go to Input Settings, set Mode = Line for a synth and Channels = Mono if you are feeding it with a normal mono TS cable, then load one effect on Track 1 and tap {On} to hear the processed signal.”*

Also, here’s an online AI Help resource I created for anyone to use:

  • to troubleshoot problems
  • to ideate new ways to use the MESS.

I hope this helps you!

Thanks everyone.

I’ve finally managed to connect it correctly.

For the input I used a stereo jack to mono double jack cable into my interface outputs and 2 mono cables from the output of the mess to the input of the interface.

Then, on my DAW (which is Ableton Live) I’ve configured as the attached print.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do it better? The only problem is that I don’t know how to use the Mess in a DAWless setup but I usually use the computer so no problem for me.

Once again, thank you all for your help. Great community!
