i’m going to politely ask you, that you dial down the rhetoric a bit.
Us moderators let this topic develop until now, because we understand the frustration some of you feel and we think expressing it in a constructive way can be beneficial.
But the latest few comments are clearly starting to trend more towards spewing and venting frustration.
Though I agree that an open conversation helps to show the frustration to the developers, I also go back a few weeks and remember people pushing like if there was no tomorrow to get new updates ASAP.
I think that as of now we know that updates don’t flow out of the oven every other week but rather cook for quite a bit. If that is the case, all the pressure then seems to contradict the scale of the drama now. Let’s be empathic and consequent.
I’m enjoying a lot the new 4 tracks in the OG but at the same time I also found the live record issues (plus one weird issue copying tracks between patterns in song mode that I was not able to replicate just yet). It sort of spoils the nice experience of new features finding these rough corners, but at the same time, I tried as much as I could to push back people’s anxiety around the release date for the update…because I knew that this would. happen.
If I were Polyend I would do like elektron and others do and never ever talk about estimate release dates in the future…you get what we cook just when we feel that is ready. That’s the only thing I would change. It would take a lot of pressure from them and would not give tools to anxious people to press.
In my case this is a hobby so my frustration levels will always be on the chill side. I partially get the frustration of people trying to use these tools to produce though, it has to be 100% frustrating.
Just remember that there are people at the other side of this screen.
After what you quote, I literally follow up that it’s ok to voice your frustration as long as it is done in a civil manner.
Don’t try to twist my words and make this a powerplay on my part.
You are new here and don’t know me, because if you did, you’d know i am very open to debate and discussion. So take my words as literal as they are written.
Civil conversation can be had, frustration can be voiced. No issue with that.
But when comments start implying “lazy developers”, and “chatgpt would do a better job” we are clearly entering just shit talk.
I hope we can all agree on this.
Hence i am asking for this discussion to remain civil and not to devolve into an insult fest… or i will shut it down.
First off, I need to point out how much the Backstage community owes to @Sandroid. Between his depth of knowledge and his harmonious attitude here, we are lucky to have him gracing this community.
There are frustrations that people have expressed, and I’ll be the first to admit that in my workflow and dependency on my hardware, I’ve had my moments as well.
As @Sandroid said, Backstage is open for constructive feedback, providing we maintain a certain level of decorum and respect.
I’ll be very transparent that I flagged a comment here, that suggested the Polyend developer(s) shouldn’t be sleeping well at night due to stability issues. These kind of comments cross an apparent and obvious line in the community conduct and I’d like to take this moment to hopefully inspire you to share you voice, and do so with respect.
I only see one issue here:
There is a lack of communication or space for improvements there.
This lack of communication results in questions like:
Will there come any updates for my device or will they expire my device and just move on to the next product?
Why are we not hearing any feedback from the developer?
Why are the updates taking so long?
is there something internally wrong at Polyend since the silence and the same discussions across more main products?
Suggestion:
weekly or 2nd weekly newsletters to their user base about the process or current state or focus, so you as user have the feeling that something is moving.
This is exactly why I returned the Digitakt 2. At the beginning the sample transfer was buggy, full of micro-bugs and the screen which went wrong after 2 weeks, I was angry. The launch was a shame, 1k euros the price of beta testing .
My point was about the time it takes to resolve these ongoing issues, not the quality of the code itself. We were initially told there would be an update at the start of summer 2024, then by the end of summer, and now there’s no clear timeline. At this point, I honestly wonder if anyone is actively working on the machine anymore.
I realize venting frustration may not be constructive, but I’m speaking from a place of disappointment. I own a machine that I can’t even add my sounds to because the project deletes the folder structure whenever I upload samples. I’ve already spent €50 on SD cards trying to troubleshoot this issue. Polyend acknowledged that this affects some units and sent me a card to make my Play… well, actually playable.
Let’s not forget, this device wasn’t cheap. I’m genuinely concerned that they might abandon it entirely. So, I’d like to ask, if there’s no commitment to fixing these problems or adding promised functionality, is there a way for me to return the machine? It’s disheartening to own something that cost me a month’s wages and feels like it’s already dead.
Judging by the user activity in this section, as well as the number of emotional reviews and dissatisfaction regarding bugs, hardware issues, and infrequent updates, the company should reflect and take some action. Otherwise, people will simply sell their equipment on classifieds before any updates arrive, and the company will develop a clear stereotype of poor software quality.
Clearly, the problem is serious. The only thing that could help in this situation is if the head of the software development department provided an official statement and explained the basic reasons:
1. Why updates are released so infrequently 2. Why critical bugs are not fixed promptly 3. Why there is such a low level of software quality assurance
Perhaps the company simply lacks the resources, experience, or personnel? However, remaining silent in this situation seems strange on the company’s part. Users want to know the reason behind the company’s behavior and what will be done to address the problems.
Thank you all who commented since my hissy fit .
This is definitely more constructive and i appreciate that!
You are right, i did use some creative liberty with your words there. I apologize
My point still stands though, the discussion was devolving to simple rants instead of being productive. Which i am happy to see has changed again. Goal achieved.
Regarding timing. I understand the frustration, maybe it would be better if Polyend never communicates a timing at all? (serious question, not trying to be snarky)
I would like to adress this real quick. I appreciate the sentiment a lot So thank you
But nobody owes me anything .
I do this … because i am passionate about the devices and i believe Polyend is as well.
And clearly so are many of you.
I would like to go more in depth on certain points y’all make. In hopes of distiling out some sort of poll or polls that i can setup for the entire community to vote on.
I’ll gladly even go the extra step and post the link to those polls on reddit and elektronauts, just so we can make sure we get a broader picture.
It is exactly this statement, that makes me want to setup polls.
Because factually, there is only 20 users in this topic (as of when i write this).
Let’s be generous and say it’s 50 people. 50 out of 9.5k members would be 0.52% of the entire forum. That’s a microscopic minority. And we all know that unhappy minorities are always the loudest.
I’m not saying this to minimize your frustrations or to antagonize y’all. I’m just looking at it from a logical and neutral standpoint. Hence why collecting a bigger pool of data would be beneficial and something we can present to Polyend.
I’m currently thinking of the following polls:
How satisfied are you with Polyend’s communication regarding feature development & software updates for their products?
Very satisfied
Somewhat satisfied
Neutral
Somewhat dissatisfied
Very dissatisfied
Do you feel Polyend listens to and addresses user concerns or feedback?
Very much
Enough
Neutral
Not very much
Not at all
What is your top priority for Polyend’s future software updates?
New creative features
Bug fixes and stability
Performance improvements
Workflow/UI enhancements
How does that sound to you all?
Do you feel like i’m missing something here?
Something that could improve the sentiment/outcome?
My goal is to collect data that could give Polyend an informed overview of where the community stands and how they feel.
My friend, this is completely incorrect analysis. It doesn’t work like that. If there is a critical bug in the software, it affects 100% of all users. Also, saying that it doesn’t require any fixes from the programmers because only 0.52% of the clients who use the forum reported it is misleading.
That’s not what i’m trying to say. Of course a bug in software affects 100% of all users.
What i’m saying or what i was trying to say is that the amount of people in this topic are not a representative number that we can present to Polyend to affect any meaningful change.
While you are counting the number of negative reviews to provide a representative number, instead of fixing the critical bugs that prevent clients from using the product, you will eventually end up counting the number of returned items. Trust me. It all sounds like excuses.
What is there to ponder and discuss when you cannot even connect Polyend Play + Tracker because the Line In doesn’t work properly? What is there to consider when after a new Tracker update, it’s impossible to record notes in real-time? All of this reflects a very unserious attitude towards customers.
I am not even mentioning that MIDI cables don’t work unless they are the original ones from the box. Because of this, I almost returned the product to the store until I accidentally tried using the MIDI cables that came with it.
You seem to forget that i am just a community moderator and not under any contract by Polyend.
My opinions are my own, just as anyone else’s here. And i have no issue saying positive or negative things about you or anyone else, including Polyend.
You also seem to forget that i report bugs just like anyone else. But i try atleast to go the extra mile and post workarounds if i find them.
If i count things i do it on my own personal time. So instead of venting your frustration towards me, try working with me instead!
I am trying to facilitate meaningful discourse and i’m hoping to create factual data that we as a communty can present to Polyend.
I’m not sure why you’d want to fight me on this.
You do know there is a difference between TRS-A and TRS-B MIDI, yes? If not, you can’t blame Polyend for that one.
This fact disappoints me even more, and I would really like for all these messages to be seen primarily by the official representatives of the company—programmers, department heads. But I don’t see them here. What could this suggest?
I have no questions for you, and maybe Polyend should consider hiring you. You are doing more than you should.
If you or anyone else wants them to see this, then help me!
Provide me with feedback to those polls that i want to create. It’s a step in the right direction.
These metric seems really offensive. Really now?
Does polyend need a witch hunt? The pay and play plus backlash seemed to do nothing, what could the 0.5% do?
I am grateful for your work in this forum but I find that comment of yours l, a least disrespectful.
It’s not ok, but I’ll consider it a mistake.
We the 0.5 happen to believe in the potential of our investment and, personally, I believe that judging the need to make something right by how many people happen to voice such desire, is at least non professional.
