Hi everyone, Christoph / Kid Bunka here.

I’ve been making music with the Tracker for years, and Polyend releasing the CE source gave me a chance to build the things I wanted to reach for more often. The result is bazillOS: an independent community firmware for the Tracker Mini, with a slightly unhealthy fondness for animated microbes and the old demoscene.

Base: the Polyend Tracker CE 1.0 codebase. The matching source documents component provenance and reviewed upstream reference 9b9a13b (not an asserted historical fork point).

The familiar tracker workflow stays. The additions focus on making and performing sample-based music:

- Drum Lab: ready PERC kits, individual sample replacements, rhythm generation and compact writes that can leave tracks free.
- A shared Chop workspace: Chop Studio, Slice Lab and Chop Patterns, with different cutting approaches, preview and editable staged results.
- Composer: choose roles, key, scale and variation, lock a useful lane, preview and write deliberately with native Undo.
- DREAMS, TIDAL, CROSSBREED and QUAD FM join the seven factory/CE engines. Their original DSP authors and licences are credited. CROSSBREED adapts selected Warps algorithms; it is not a full Warps/vocoder port.
- 64 Punch Deck recipes, momentary/latch operation and coder visuals; twelve added compound Step FX in the existing two lanes.
- Tempo-linked Pong and Virus Breaker that produce phrases you can keep in the Pattern Editor.
- A folding 4/8-track view, clearer edit/record states, contextual help and an illustrated English manual.

Back up the whole card, read the included installation guide, merge the pack folders and choose Firmware/TrackerMini\_bz090c.ptf under Config \> Firmware. Check 0.9.0 bazillOS / bz090c after startup.

A few practical limits: this release is for the MINI only. It keeps 48 sample slots, two Step FX lanes and three live synth parts within the native shared voice budget. It is a pre-1.0 community release, not an official Polyend product.

Real Mini testing has covered playback, controls, old projects, saving/reloading, the folded view and Punch behaviour. Returning to official firmware has also been tested. Like CE, saved patterns use v6 and cannot be read by older stock firmware. Keep your original card/project backup: restoring firmware and opening newer saved projects in older firmware are separate questions.

Known follow-up: while developing 0.9.1 we identified generator preview/write level mismatches and offline export error/long-WAV issues. Corrections are being tested; they are not in the public 0.9.0 image yet. Use a project copy and compare levels when experimenting. I will update this topic with the tested follow-up rather than quietly replace a release file.

The work uses substantial AI coding assistance, alongside source review, automated checks and actual hardware feedback. Host tests and device results are kept distinct. The source retains the Polyend CE licence and component notices; the whole firmware is not claimed to be MIT or OSI-licensed.

Feedback, awkward corner cases and ideas from other developers are very welcome. Thanks to Polyend for opening this door, and to the authors of the DSP and firmware components it builds on.

looks amazing. lots of very interesting stuff 🙂

did I see in the vid you can turn off auto-scrolling when playing a sequence? or am I mistaken.

that’s my main issue with the tracker. auto-scroll when playing a sequence kills my eyes.

Hi! When in “Edit Mode” in the pattern sequencer, there is no auto scrolling. I’ll implement a function in the general settings where you can toggle scrolling always off. ✌
