Additional Instrument Filter specifically for Mixing/Mastering

Bass rolloff is an extremely common recording and mixing procedure. A simple, switchable rolloff filter on instruments to prevent buildup of low frequencies without sacrificing the sweepable resonant hi/low/bandpass filter would be very useful.

It would be extra great if there was also a simple switchable lowpass filter for reducing aliasing noise, but that is bonus.

What is the problem?

It’s very easy to have a lot of instruments all competing for the low frequencies and turning your mix into mud soup. If you cut the low frequencies where they are not needed (for example, guitar), your kick and bass will have more punch. Since there is only one filter per voice your options for dealing with this are very limited- especially if you want to use that filter for sweeps.

What do you want to achieve?

An optional (very simple) highpass filter to roll off bass frequencies on instruments to prevent unwanted buildup.

Are there any workarounds?

Yes- use the single existing filter instead of using it for fun sweeps. Or carefully edit all of your samples.

Any links to related discussions?

Any references to other products?

Pretty much every decent mixing board, most preamps, many condenser mics, etc. have a bass rolloff button you can press to toggle it.

Yes, it would be great to have that filter. I’ve made a wish too with filters in the sample editor…

Just so we are clear. This would be an additional filter, in order not to use the existing filter for the instrument. Correct?

Yes, I think I have an open wish for that. My wish is destructive, in the sample editor I think.

Yes, that is my wish. I know not all wishes come true

@herb_nice , thanks again for your contribution, but unfortunately we have to reject his due to technical limitations. But keep in mind we are planning to improve the Equalizer in the Sample Editor which will hopefully fulfil your wish partly.
